We Are Wedges is celebrating along with all the other Etsy Bloggers!

So what's green with Wedges? So many things!

1) There is SLUGGO, he's a green sea wedge.

He naturally cleans our oceans waters by feeding on detritus!
Thats the dead and waste stuff found in our oceans!

2) There is WALTER the Wedge!

He has a green hoodie!
To save the earth, he lowers his carbon footprint by riding his bike EVERYWHERE!!!

3) Most of all we'll introduce RASCHERA the Wedge!

She's a Wedgetarian! What's a wedgetarian? They only eat wedgetables!

That means she's reducing her human footprint in wedgeland!
Being wedgetarian contributes to solving:
-World hunger
(it takes more energy to raise and produce animal meat than the meat itself provides)
-Deforestation
(forests and rain forests are being cut down to provide grazing land for animals)
-Soil erosion
(grazing animals that eat the grass strip the land and make it vulnerable to wind and soil erosion, thereby destroying prime agricultural land)
-Disease
(vegetarian diets reduce the risk of heart disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, obesity, cancer...)

WAW @ SpeakEasy Comic Show! Nov 6th, 2008

We Are Wedges is going to be at the SpeakEasy Comic Show!

Date: Thursday, November 6th, 2008
Time: 8PM to Midnight
Place: The Gladstone Hotel - 1214 Queen Street West, Toronto

Toronto is home to some of the best-known comics artists in North America. We have an active and vibrant community putting out some of the highest quality comics to be found anywhere. The SpeakEasy Comics Show features an eclectic mix of Toronto’s talented comic book artists - from those who do newspaper strips and political cartoons, to underground comix and mainstream superhero comic books! The event promises to display an exciting cross-section of the comics’ community here in Toronto, as well as a glimpse into how good comics are made. As the old cliché goes, there really will be something for everyone.*

SpeakEasy is a monthly gathering of Toronto's creative community. It's an opportunity to network, share ideas, and keep in touch with the pulse of Toronto's creative professionals. Since 1996 it has grown from a get-together of a few friends to an event that now draws regular crowds of up to 300. SpeakEasy takes place 8 times a year, on the first Thursday of the month, at The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen W.)*

SpeakEasy began in 1996 and was founded by David Brown, a local Toronto encaustic painter whose paintings can be found in numerous galleries and museums through Canada and the U.S., and privately through North America, Europe, and Asia.

Countdown to Fan Expo 2008 - DAY 4

A few days ago, we introduced Squido the librarian. Today we're proud to introduce Sluggo, a sea snail who lives at the bottom of the Wedge Sea. Sluggo is a window cleaner, but has been unemployed for several months. We're all for skilled trades, but he may have wanted to consider that there are very few windows to clean at the bottom of the ocean.

Sea snails are gastropods. We were going to steal a general overview of the class from wikipedia, but the following really jumped out at us, so we're going to focus on it:

"Snails are distinguished by torsion, a process where the visceral mass of the animal rotates 180º to one side during development, such that the anus is situated more or less above the head".

Wait a minute, what was that last part? They have butts on top of your heads? Headbutts? Needless to say, our Wedge tribute to all things gastropod is not entirely anatomically correct. No headbutts. Sluggo is however pretty much adorable. Not a showboat like Octo, Sluggo's content without pesky appendages, just slinking across the ocean floor, feeding on whatever floats his way.
